People say the cost of raising a child has been soaring into the sky. This is true. As the cost of living continues to increase, the cost of raising a child and giving him or her everything that you want him to have can be quite expensive. Parents want the best for their children, including the things that they might not have had as they were growing up. In today’s world, there are designer baby clothes and accessories, cool gadgets/technology that are meant to help ease parenthood, cute toys, and more!

How do you distinguish between the needs and the wants? It’s been a while since school let out… but let’s throw a quick math ratio into this problem! :D

The Cost Per Wear Ratio = (the cost of an item) / (estimated # of days you will wear it)

For example, if I invested in a a $1200 laptop, and I used it daily for the next five years ($0.66 per day), it would be cheaper than a a pair of shoes that I bought for $120 that I would wear only in the summer/winter or maybe even for only a few times a month (which would cost about $1.33 per day or more).

Baby items can cost alot. For those mommy bargain hunters out there, there are long-term quality items that would help you save alot more in the long run. Mobile Moms, maker of the original Toastie Toddler stroller blanket, is always trying to bring you fashion and function together in one complete bundle. We’re coming out with a new line of Toastie Toddlers called POD XPs. As cute as this name may sound, it brings all that you might want in a baby’s comfort blanket. It’s breathable, windproof, and 100% waterproof. It can also be lengthened as your baby grows so he’ll be snug and comfy in his stroller or car seat wherever he goes. He’ll be kept as snug and safe as a pea in a pod :) . The POD XP is something you can pass down to another family member, friend, or neighbor. According to my calculator, it also has a great cost per wear ratio :D and is a valuable investment for the future. Why not buy the best for your baby?

The original Toastie Toddler by Mobile Moms was the first of its kind to hit the market. It has a high tech fabric that keeps the wind and water out and keeps the baby warm and safe. No more need for bulky jackets that might make the baby uncomfortable. Mobile Moms did it first. Trust us to make the best :)

We have plans to manufacture POD XP in the U.S. Stay tuned and keep an eye out for POD XP! It’s going to be the next best revolution of Toastie Toddlers. We love to hear from our Mobile Moms who are out and about. What are you looking for in your next winter blanket purchase?

I have journaled my entire life. Whether I was traveling or trying to get in touch with myself my journal was always nearby. It is so interesting to take them out sometimes and look back at where I was and what I was thinking. I laugh out loud at how some of them always say the same thing and than I go back and remember oh,yes, that was what I was feeling than. Look how I have grown as a person! Often I am asked why do you journal? How do you journal? Here are some of my suggestions and answers.

I journal sometimes just to understand what I am really feeling. I journal to get my feelings out of the pit of my stomach and onto the page to let them go. I journal to remember the many blessings in my life and to be conscious and grateful. I journal to hear myself think. I journal to get in touch with my higher self.

I have travel journals that document those incredible moments in my life.

I have gratitude journals that remind me to write down 5 things every night that I am grateful for so that I stay in the moment.

I have pity party journals! This is where I can divulge all that I want and no one else will see or hear it. No one is judging me, it is a safe place.

The most challenging was when I tried to do the Artists Way and journal three pages of continuous thought each morning! I didn’t always have that much to say! It was interesting though to see what really was going on in my head when I just wrote and wrote and wrote without thinking or censor.

My journals that are conversations with my higher self are always interesting! I write my initial, ask a question and than write whatever initial you want for your higher self and answer it. It feels silly at first but it is amazing when you look back on these conversations. You sometimes wonder where did that answer come from?

Have fun with this. Go out and find the right journal for you. Take your time. It will feel right in your hand. Does it have lined paper or not? Is it leather or just a pad? Take your time and find the right pen to write with. I am very particular about this. It has to be just the right feel in my hand. The ink has to flow easily and just the right tip.

Make sure you feel your journals are safe. They are not for anybody else to read. Only you, this way you can say whatever you want. Either write them in your computer in a special place that only you can see or put them away in a locked drawer. These journals are for you. For your heart and your soul.

Does anyone else journal? Have you found it to be enlightening? Helpful? Interesting?

I saw this picture and it only reminded me of how much I loved to cook with my children when they were younger. I love to cook and to take my children into the kitchen with me and share this was always fun. Messy, but fun. My son loved to cook. He loved measuring, mixing, doing all that was needed to be done to accomplish the task at hand. My daughter, well, she loved to lick the spoons and bowls most of all!

Today, my son cooks all the time. He now loves to share this activity with my granddaughter. Interesting how things go full circle. They cook things as complicated as bread and as easy as scrambling eggs. How wonderful for my granddaughter to have this bonding time with her father.

My daughter to this day is a “foodie”. She loves to go to the farmers market and cook what is fresh and in season. This is a passion of hers which she loves to share with others in her life. She once even began her own company called Food for Thought Tours.

You never know where your sharing with your children ends up. So here are just some simple ideas for you to get started in the kitchen!

1. Breakfast is easy. Scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes or even as easy as pouring their own cereal and milk into the bowl!

French Toast

mix egg in bowl

add 1 tbsp. milk

dip the bread in this mixture and soak it on both sides

heat pan with a pat of butter

brown the bread on both sides till cooked

either use cinnamon and sugar to top it off or maple syrup or nothing!

2. Sandwiches

I use to love to take bread and use a cookie cutter to make hearts or animal shapes for my kids sandwiches. It always just made it more fun to eat. Than put whatever you like on it. Peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish, you get the point.

3. Quick Play dough

Play dough is one of my favorite. It is fun to make this with your children and let them see how things come together like a science experiment. This recipe can be stored for a couple of months. Pull out the rolling pin, cookie cutters, etc and have fun with this soft homemade dough!

http://www.ehow.com/way_5749959_easy-quick-recipe-play-dough.html

4. Cookies

Yumm, who doesn’t like to make chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies. I always felt it was better to give them what I made rather than store bought as I knew what actually went in the recipe. Just follow the recipes on the chocolate chip bag or the long cooking oatmeal box. Let your kids measure, pour, mix. When they are done and the house smells so good you can have your own tea party!

Have fun cooking with your kids. Do any of you Mobile Moms have this as an activity in your home? Can you share any of your easy recipes with us to try?

Spring is in the air and it is time to go out and have some fun. As an early childhood educator and parent I always loved the outdoor time best of all! You could do so much exploring and playing. Just wanted to share some of my favorites.

1. Water Water Water

what child doesn’t love to play in the water. In the city parks you can put on your gelly sandals, a bathing suit and head to the park to go under some of the most interesting and fun water sprinklers. You can find one near you by searching your community site. In New York city you can go to this link:

http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/sprayshowers

In the back yard, if you have one, set up a little blow up pool to sit in. Just be safe and make sure you never leave your child alone. It is just like a bath tub so please be safe. It is fun to put in all sorts of plastic measuring toys for lot’s of water play.

2. Exploring

Go for a walk around the neighborhood and see what you can find. Do a collection of whatever it is ie: rocks, flowers, insects

If you leave in the city there are always the parks! If your child is a bit older you can take paper and crayon and find all of the interesting things you can do rubbings of . A rubbing is when you put the paper over a raised surface and crayon it. The shadow is that appears is so much fun for kids.

Play the game of how many things you can find that are …….. red, start with p, how many steps to the corner, you get the point!

3. Picnic

I love to eat outside! I love barbecues and picnics alike. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. An easy snack, sandwich, anything packable will do. Pack a blanket, something to drink and you are ready to go. Invite your friends and have everyone bring something to share. Playgroups outside are fun too.

4. Let’s get physical

Toddlers love to run and play. Find a park where you can play an easy game of hide and seek. Even if they just cover their face they break down into giggles when you can’t find them.

If they are old enough you can jump rope or do hula hoops together, which by the way is a great exercise for mom! Younger ones love to hold the rope, walk the rope, jump in and out of the hoop the ideas are endless.

5. Art

If you can paint outside set up an easel and let them loose. If not finger paints are an easy alternative. Another favorite is sidewalk chalk. They come in beautiful colors and large sizes for toddlers hands.

6. Gardening

If you live in the city it is still fun to plant some seeds and watch them grow on the window sill. Or go to the farmers market and buy some spices that are already growing. Use them when you cook and let your child smell all of the delicious choices – basel, cilantro, oregano hmmmmm.

Of course if you have a plot of land or a patio you can do so much more!

7. Listen and watch

Sometimes it is fun to just get quiet and listen to the different birds in the park or watch the squirrels scurry around. Do they bring their nuts to a special place in the tree? Listen to the wind or any water near by. Listen to each other. Sometimes just to stop and listen brings the peace of the season to your heart.

8. Large motor skills

Besides climbing and swinging in the park this is the season to get on a riding toy. My favorite is the Like a Bike

This bike has no pedals so a two year old can learn to zoom on it as well as a six year old! It teaches your toddler how to balance so that they can go straight into a two wheeler when they are ready. Love this bike! You can purchase it here!

https://www.mobilemoms.com/Like-a-Bike–225-prod.htm

9. Traveling

Train, plane, bus or car be prepared. Make sure you pack your child’s favorite “lovey”, speical snacks, change of clothes, diapers, wipes, drinks. Make sure your phone is charged, bring the charger and all identification you need. It is always nice to find some little special new item that your child has not played with before. It is new, interesting and something special to do together when you are traveling. For example a new book, puzzle, drawing tool, something packable! Little babies are easy to fascinate with a necklace of yours!

We love sparewear because it is so easy to just throw in your bag and you have a quick change ready. Check it out! https://www.mobilemoms.com/Babysparewear-Fashion-128-176-prod.htm

10. Safety

Last but not least be safe. Protect yourself and your child from the sun with hats and sunscreen. If your child is an infant use the sunproof kangaroo Kuddler to protect them from the damaging rays of the sun. Otherwise they can put on a child proof sunscreen that your pediatrician recommends.

https://www.mobilemoms.com/SUNPROOF-Kangaroo-Kuddler–4-prod.htm

Make sure you and your child stay hydrated. Children can overheat easily and get dehydrated. Water is always great to have on hand.

Make a small first aid kit to carry with you just in case. Band aides, ointment, small disinfectant wipe. You never know when there will be skinned knee around.

Be safe. Be prepared.

Let us know what fun activities you have done with your children outside. What are your favorite activities and places to go ? Mobile Moms are always out and about, we love to hear your suggestions and so will many other Mobile Moms! Thanks for sharing!

You see them, the adorable babies, sexy skinny moms after three weeks of giving birth, making it all look so glamorous, fun and easy. How come I don’t feel or look that way you might ask? I know I did! It was all I could do to get in the shower and get dressed! It seemed like an all day event just to get myself and the baby out the door. Between nursing, changing diapers, cleaning up spit up who had time for me now at all? No longer was there time for blow drying my hair perfectly, applying my makeup, and who even wanted to wear high heels anymore? LOL when I think about it all it can make me laugh now, but at the time it was all consuming.

Are any of you new Mobile Moms feeling this way? Let’s talk about it……What can you do to make yourself feel even remotely like yourself again?

1. Get a really good baby front carrier and put your new delicious bundle in it. Babies love to be close to your heart, smell you, hear you talk and generally feel like they are loved and back in the womb! This way you can walk around the house getting yourself together.

2. If you are nursing you can find these fabulous tops on Mobile Moms website. We love these tops because they work! They make you feel sexy, like yourself, and yet they are easy to lift up anywhere to nurse. Check them out. https://www.mobilemoms.com/Nursing-Bra-Long-Tank-75-83-prod.htm Pair them with some comfy pants and don’t worry about the weight yet. It will come off as you come back to yourself. It is sort of like an out of body experience. You do come back, eat right, walk and it will all be good.

3. A new hairstyle is always good. It makes you feel fresh, alive again, sexy! Try something easy. Either a great haircut that will fall easily without much fuss or try one of the great hair pieces out there. You can pull your hair back 1 2 3 and put in a fluffy hair piece that matches and look like you spent hours on your hair!

4. Be kind to yourself. Pamper yourself a little bit. Earth Mama Angel Baby’s mini gift bag filled with natural and organic goodies that no new mama should do without. Everyone who has tried these three products love them. It might be hard not to give your precious bundle all of your attention…..but new mommy’s need to pay attention to themselves as well and take a little time just for them. https://www.mobilemoms.com/Little-Something-for-New-Mama-73-149-prod.htm Mobile Moms really cares about new mamas and how they feel!

5. I recommend a dinner out with hubby. I know it might not be easy to leave that new delicious bundle but if Grandma is around I bet she would love it for an hour or so. Stay nearby if you can or if you can’t possibly leave the new little one take them with you. Lot’s of restaurants allow strollers or use that front baby carrier again, let your husband try it out for a change. If this all seems too much order in, light some candles, put on some music and try to make time just for the two of you. A baby swing is a miracle worker at these times!

6. I know that before a baby comes there is so much to think about. All of their needed items. But it is also a good time while you are nesting and organizing to get a couple of new things for yourself. Be prepared. Clean out your old makeup and freshen it up, have your creams ready, organize your clothes so you feel like the beautiful woman you are. Organize your new diaper bag ahead of time so you are ready. It can even be your over night bag for the hospital. Do you know what to put in it? Send us an email, we will send you a list.

info@mobilemoms.com We still love our black backpack diaper bag for starters. It feels and looks like a real bag but performs as a diaper bag. It also allows you to be hands free which is always nice once the baby comes. https://www.mobilemoms.com/Ultimate-Baby-Bag-Back-Pack-131-3-prod.htm

Mothers Day. It is around the corner and I have been thinking a lot about it. At Mobile Moms we think about what gift a new mom would love to have. We always want to make their life easier, sweeter, kinder. We know how much goes into being a new mom. We have listed on past blogs some of our favorite items which you can check out again if you wish https://www.mobilemoms.com/Just-for-Mom-73-cat.htm but today we wanted to write about Mothers Day in general.

What does Mothers Day mean to you? As a mother? As a daughter? Is it all hype and Madison avenue or do you really love this day and how it is celebrated? Are you torn between being with your own mother or being a mother?

Unfortunately my mom is no longer alive. I think of her everyday so for me mothers day is every day. She was an incredible mother who loved and adored her four girls. When it was mothers day she often would say, but you girls are mothers enjoy your own day. We only wanted to celebrate her. But this was us. Not everyone has these wonderful feelings. What do you do for your mother on mothers day?

Now, my children are grown. One will be in San Francisco for business and another lives far away. My husband assures me it is all Madison Avenue anyway. I wonder how I will feel on Sunday? :) Do I want them to celebrate me as a mother or do I feel celebrated all the other days of the year? Actually, I know they love and care about me but it is always nice to hear it again!

Has Madison Avenue set us up for this day? We would love to hear your comments to all of our questions above. What are you expecting to occur on Mothers Day? What would you wish and hope for? Do you care? Let us know Mobile Moms. We are listening! Either way have a wonderful day and know that we think you are super moms every day!
